Teresa Brown, a dedicated advocate for children and adolescents, brings a wealth of experience and compassion to her role at The Attachment & Trauma Center of Houston. Her journey in public education was ignited by a profound desire to uplift every child, especially those who find their stride outside the conventional classroom. With an unwavering belief in the inherent worth of every young soul, Teresa honed her focus in Special Education, where she empowers students to believe in their own, boundless potential.

Having grappled with the aftermath of a tragic loss in her own family, Teresa understands the intricate path of grief all too well. As a Survivor of Suicide, she carries a special passion for supporting families navigating this delicate terrain. She recognizes the unique challenges posed by the stigma and guilt that often shroud this type of grief, and strives to offer a compassionate, judgment-free sanctuary for families to heal. Her approach is collaborative, rooted in the firm belief that there is hope and healing on the horizon for every child and family she serves.

As a therapist, Teresa Brown is deeply committed to facilitating hope and healing in the lives of children, adolescents, and their families. She fervently believes that each child and family deserves tailored treatment solutions, attuned to their individual needs. Through a nurturing environment that embraces the power of play, she empowers children to embark on a journey of healing, forging the foundations for healthy relationships both now and in the future.

Teresa’s pursuit of further education and training has led her to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). This distinction represents over 150 educational hours and 500 hours of supervised play therapy, affirming her commitment to excellence in her field. Her specialized training spans modalities such as Theraplay®, Play Therapy, Sandtray, EMDR, and TBRI, with a dedicated focus on attachment issues, depression, and anxiety.

With a rich background encompassing twenty-five years in the public school system and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Teresa offers invaluable insights into the unique complexities facing children and adolescents. Her certifications as a National Certified School Counselor, Texas Certified School Counselor, and Texas Certified Special Education Educator further fortify her ability to guide families through the educational landscape. Teresa’s proficiency in assisting with the intricacies of educational plans, from 504s to IDEA, as well as the implementation of behavior plans, is a testament to her comprehensive understanding of the system.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Teresa’s personal life is enriched by her love for animals. She also shares her passion for mental health advocacy with her adult son — championing the cause of holistic healing and restoration for all.
